Thankful Tuesdays: Settling in

We left Germany on Thursday night, reached back to Singapore on Friday afternoon, and have been slowly trying to get back into the swing of things over here. There's so much to get used to: the crazy crowds, the jams (the hubby's behind-the-wheel yelling has started again since we got back, heh), the heat and humidity (the air-con seems to be switched on half the time, and baby J's eczema has come back with a vengeance). But we are glad to be back too, to our own comfy home, to local yummies, to friends and family. To familiarity.

Things have been quite a mess, which is probably expected. I've not unpacked most of our luggages, and we rummage our drawers and luggages when we need clothes. Most of the days are spent running about for doctor's appointments, getting stuff replaced (like our specs, which baby J broke), and our nights are spent dealing with jet lag as the boys wake up at the strangest hours to play. We've been running on a hazy mix of adrenaline, local food, and coffee (in the case of the hubby).

Whatever the case, we're still really thankful for:

:: Journey mercies and His grace. That our Father kept us safe through this one year of traveling and living in a foreign land, and brought us home at the end of it.

:: Relatively manageable flights. We couldn't do an online check-in for some strange reason, so we were given separate seats on our feeder flight from Muenster to Frankfurt. The hubby sat with Junior J while I was waaaay back in the plane with the baby. I was really glad that I managed to feed Mr Squirmy his dinner while desperately clutching his coat collar with one hand to prevent him from falling off my lap!

When we left Singapore for Germany, Junior J had a really bad night on the plane, tossing and kicking. The hubby ended up sitting on the floor most of the time. Thankfully, Junior J managed to sleep during the return flight, and the hubby and I managed to even watch "The Hobbit" on the plane (something I thought might not be possible with two young kids!). Baby J was really wriggly, but we didn't get any of his epic meltdowns. While the hubby ended up with a bad neckache after the flight, it was still much better than our previous experience.

:: Friends and family. My parents spent the past few weeks helping to clean up and ready up our home for our return. So we came back to a clean house, shelves dusted, fresh sheets, and even a new living room floor (we had our 2nd hand laminate floors replaced while we were away as they were starting to come out). My mum has been helping to cook dinner since I'm just way too exhausted to to think about cooking these few days. I've been so grateful for all their help.

Some of our friends came by to pick us up from the airport, and we were so thankful to see all those familiar faces after that long flight! Junior J was so delighted to meet his church friend, that he spent an hour running about with her like a crazy person, shrieking away.

:: Home. It may look like a disaster zone and smell rather musty, but it is still the place to be. Its nice washing up stuff with soft water and having proper places to store things!

Ok, I'm hoping this crazy jet lag thing will wear off soon. Meanwhile, what are YOU thankful for?

    1. Wow, yes that sounds great! But probably not so soon. These days thanks to jet lag, the kids only wake up at 9, and we're done with breakfast and all at 1030! :p
